#OptOutside Volcan Mountain Hike, Friday, November 29, 2019

Friday, November 29: It's the day after Thanksgiving! Get away from the holiday chaos. Instead of hitting the malls for Black Friday, #OptOutside instead and burn some of those holiday calories! There will still be plenty of deals and time for shopping later.

Join County Parks and the Volcan Mountain Foundation on a customized hike. We'll start on the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve's Five Oaks Trail then routes will be shared (depending on how many calories you want to burn). This hike is moderately strenuous.

Furry Friends Hike at Santa Ysabel East, Saturday, October 27, 2018

Saturday, October 27th meet ranger dogs LeeLoo and Luke and their people, Rangers Eric and Doug, for this easy, 3-mile, family friendly hike at Santa Ysabel East County Preserve. Bring your dog and we'll walk together on this gentle trail to the Santa Ysabel Creek. Dogs must stay on a leash and be socialized and friendly to others.

200th Anniversary Hike and Harvest Celebration - Saturday, October 20, 2018

On Saturday October 20th, join San Diego County Park staff as they lead a hike from Santa Ysabel Preserve - East to the 200-year-old Santa Ysabel Mission. You will hike an historic section of the trail that Padre Sanchez hiked and referenced in his diary in 1821. This 6.5-mile hike will follow the Santa Ysabel Creek downhill to the mission. Along the way, you will pass through a white alder forest. Afterward, you can enjoy the Harvest Celebration where park staff will have a nature touch table and a "Make Your Own Hiking Stick" station. 

Banner Toll Road Hike with the Canyoneers Sunday, April 14th, 2018

Sunday, April 14th: Hike with the San Diego Natural History Museum's Canyoneers along Julian's Old Banner Toll Road. You will see Volcan Mountain from a different view as well as Granite Peak and the Laguna Mountains. You'll also see a variety of spring wildflowers during this downhill walk to the old Warlock Mine. Re-energize with lunch before the uphill return. This is a three-mile roundtrip hike with an elevation gain/loss of 1,000 feet.

Volcan Mountain Summit Hike with the Canyoneers Sunday, May 5th, 2018

Saturday, May 5th, hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve. You'll join the San Diego Natural History Meuseum's Canyoneers for an indredible spring hike along the Five Oaks Trail. An optional continuation to the summit of Volcan Mountain is also offered. The preserve offers 2,900 acres offering views across the San Diego River watershed to the coast and to the Salton Sea in the Anza-Borrego Desert in the east.

Hike Santa Ysabel Preserve East with the Canyoneers Sunday, September 16, 2018

Sunday, September 16th - join the Canyoneers for a hike on the Santa Ysabel Preserve East to Kanaka loop. Canyoneers are citizen scientists and volunteers who have had comprehensive training by the San Diego Natural History Museum. They offer hikes throughout the region from September through June. One of the few trail-guide groups nationwide affiliated with a natural history museum rather than a park or reserve, Canyoneers have provided free guided tours in San Diego County since 1973.

Family-Friendly Walk at Santa Ysabel Preserve East, Saturday, August 11th, 9:30am

Saturday, August 11th, join Volcan Mountain Foundation guides at 9:30am for a family-friendly walk along Santa Ysabel Creek. Please wear walking shoes.

Get your Julian Natural Wonderfest day started with an approximately two mile-long walk starting at the Farmer Road staging area of the Santa Ysabel Preserve East (114-117 Farmer Road, Julian, CA 92036).

Sunset Hike and Star Party at the Volcan Summit - Saturday, August 18, 2018

Saturday, August 18th join County Parks staff on an evening sunset hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve

From the Five Oaks Trail, you'll marvel at incredible views of the orchards and vineyards below, and peer down into Banner Canyon and the Elsinore Fault that runs through it. We'll arrive at the summit just before sunset to enjoy the views from the Salton Sea to the San Diego coastline.
