Volcan Mountain Summit Hike, Saturday, May 4, 2019, 8:00 am - Noon

Saturday, May 4th, hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve. The preserve offers great hiking through 2,900 acres of beautiful mixed conifer forest, offering breathtaking views across the San Diego River watershed to the coast and to the Salton Sea in the Anza-Borrego Desert in the east. The Five Oaks Trail winds around the mountainside through a series of switchbacks ending with a breathtaking view.

Furry Friends Hike at Santa Ysabel East, Saturday, April 27, 2019

Saturday, April 27th meet ranger dogs LeeLoo and Luke and their people, Rangers Eric and Doug, for this easy, family friendly three-mile hike at Santa Ysabel East County Preserve. Bring your dog and we'll walk together on this gentle trail to the Santa Ysabel Creek. Dogs must stay on a leash and be socialized and friendly to others.

Rain or Shine: Hike to Volcan Summit - Saturday, February 23rd from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Saturday, February 23rd join Park Attendant Eric for a rain or shine hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve through manzanita, oak and cedar forests.

February weather can be difficult to forecast on Volcan Mountain, but let's embrace the uncertainty. Don your best cold, windy, wet-weather gear for an all-weather, six-mile round-trip hike to the summit!  Rain and wind, clear and calm - buck-up, the hike is on!

This hike is considered strenuous. Be prepared for a 1,000 foot elevation gain to the summit of the Wilderness Preserve.

Practice how to read the landscape to understand animal movement. This is a moderate to strenuous 6-mile hike on sections of the Coast to Crest Trail.
