Spring Hike at Santa Ysabel - West Side

On Sunday, April 27, 2014 join Ranger Bobbi on a hike around the Kanaka Loop Trail alongside the Santa Ysabel creek. She will point out the beautiful wildflowers along the way and discuss the history of the area. Learn about the cattle and how they help maintain the diversity of the plant life. Wear appropriate hiking attire. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Bring plenty of water. Meet at park kiosk. Open to all ages. Inclement weather will cancel event.

Saturday, April 26th Arbor Day Hike - Santa Ysabel Preserve-East Side

In honor of Arbor Day, join Park Ranger Bret Exner for a hike through Santa Ysabel East Preserve. We will be observing the various species of trees in the Preserve including oaks, sycamores and pines. Come emjoy the fresh air and bring the family. All ages and abilities are welcome. Meet at the Santa Ysabel east staging area. Inclement weather will cancel the event.

Early Season Hike to the Volcan Summit-Sunday, March 30th

On Sunday, March 30th join County Park staff for an early spring hike to the scenic summit of the county's Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve (VMWP).  Take in the panoramic views while hiking the Five Oaks Trail.  Enjoy a bird’s eye view of Julian, where on a clear day you can see the buildings in downtown San Diego and islands off the coast of Mexico and Southern California.

Sun. Nov. 10th - End of Season Close of Summit Hike on Volcan Mountain

Join San Diego County Parks & Rec staff for a hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve (VMWP).  Although the VMWP is open 365 days a year (weather permitting) up to the mid-summit gate, the final leg of the trail to the summit is only accessible on weekends and holidays from April through October.  Experience the beauty of Volcan Mountain in the fall, and help close the summit season in style!

Sun. Oct. 27th - Hike Volcan Mountain with County Park Staff

Join County Park & Rec Staff for a fall hike on scenic Volcan Mountain. Take in the panoramic views while hiking the Five Oaks Trail of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of Julian, where on a clear day you can see the buildings in downtown San Diego and islands off the coast of Mexico and Southern California. From the summit, you can enjoy an incredible view of San Felipe Valley and the desert.

Sunday, August 4th, 2013-Coast to Crest Challenge Series; Volcan Mountain Hike

Coast to Crest Challenge Series presented by friends and partners of the Volcan Mountain Foundation at the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy--a fun way to challenge your physical strength and endurance while exercising in open space with fellow enthusiasts.  This new series will consist of both hikes and bike rides.  The Challenge Series is led by David O’ Connor, San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy Conservation Manager.
