Guided Hike

Tuesday, October 21st at 9am, the Volcan Mountain Foundation and Julian’s informal Tuesday morning hiking group are co-hosting a hike and history exploration at VMF’s Volcan Mountain Nature Center (22850 Volcan Road).  Local historians Ed Huffman and Albert Simonson will share their extensive knowledge of early European settlers who lived on the mountain, including the Grand family.  

Saturday, August 17th join San Diego County Parks Ranger Bobbi Thompson at the Santa Ysabel Preserve East-Farmer Road staging area to explore, discover and learn about wildlife tracks along the trail near

Saturday, September 6th join San Diego County Park Ranger Bret Exner up a hidden road leading to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve (VMWP). The road will wind through towering cedar groves, oak filled meadows and along a pristine creek.

Saturday, August 2nd, join San Diego County Park Ranger Bret Exner through the trails of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.  Enjoy discussions about the history, plants and wildlife of the preserve, while seeing places in the preserve you normally don’t get to see.

Choose one of two hikes on Sunday, May 18th to explore Volcan Mountain and it's foothills.

On Sunday, June 1, 2014, join Ranger Bobbi on a hike around the Kanaka Loop Trail alongside the Santa Ysabel creek. She will point out the beautiful wildflowers along the way and discuss the history of the area. Learn about the cattle and how they help maintain the diversity of the plant life. Wear appropriate hiking attire. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Bring plenty of water. Meet at park kiosk. Open to all ages. Inclement weather will cancel event.
